First let me state, I’m not against dental directories. I think they are a great resource for people who don’t know how to obtain a new dentist. They support organized dentistry and believe in addressing oral health care needs. These directories provide the best service they can, but can’t always control which doctors pay for a listing.
Unfortunately, what they can’t “pre-screen” is the clinical skills or communication styles of their dentists. While there are many factors involved when seeking a new health provider, these are two qualities that are rather important.
“One thing that sets 1-800-DENTIST apart is the fact that we carefully match patients with pre-screened dentists. First, let’s start with what pre-screened doesn’t mean. Pre-screened doesn’t mean that we judge the clinical skills of our dentists. We’re not qualified to do that. “
If they aren’t qualified, then who is? Although it may take a little leg work, here are some suggestions for resources that are qualified to judge the clinical and communication skills of the dentists.
