When I think of Lumineers®, I think of fake nails. You just glue them over your natural short stubby nails and whala, now you have beautiful long pretty nails. Lumineers work the same way. They are thin porcelain shells glued to the outside of your teeth.
Lumineers® offer patients the opportunity to alter the appearance of their teeth without actually altering the structure of their teeth. No drilling, no tooth preparations. It’s a cool concept that works for a few, but not for everybody.
The perfect candidate for Lumineers® is patients with small teeth with weak contacts (spacing between the teeth), and/or teeth that are recluded in appearance. This means the teeth are positioned more so toward the tongue. Many of us do not have these ideal circumstances. On most people, these “restorations” can appear bulky and unnatural, and the dentist is often limited in shape in color options.
If you need or want to enhance the appearance of your teeth, consult with a dentist. If Lumineers® don’t fit the bill, I’m sure the dentist has other options that will also allow you to achieve a beautiful natural smile.
